A new concept in Weekend Travel – Vineyard Tours. A concept very popular in France / Europe. It is new to India as wine itself as a concept is new to India. India, with its strong spicy food, is considered to be more of a whiskey country than a wine country.
In this backdrop, one must admire the guts of Rajeev Samant, the techie employed with Oracle in California, to dump everything and dream of starting a Wine Brand in India. Hats off to him. He has done reasonably well.
The processing plant is rather small. It looks small to me as I have worked in NDDB’s Fruits & Vegetable Project in Delhi which used to process / handle lakhs of tons of vegetables & fruits every day. However Sula does contract farming of wine grape on hundreds of hectares in Nashik – which is very commendable.
They have a cute, small but well managed “setup”. The wine tasting sessions are learning experience to a lay person (read whiskey guy). The extended and large balcony overlooks sprawling vineyard. You can sit in the balcony and sip wine, wile enjoy the green expanse of grape orchards and rural countryside around you.
You may not believe but we went to Nashik, stayed in a club accommodation overnight, only for this visit to Sula Orchard. Trambakeshar is nearby and we went during holy Shravan month. But I found the whole environment around the famed shrine bit shady and too dirty and hence had to come back without visiting the temple.
Now you too can enjoy Sula Vineyard. Sanver Travels brings to you a perfect weekend plan. We are proud to present Sula’s Tasting Room – India’s first – located right on their Nashik Vineyard Estate. Designed by Californian architects Andy Hope (of the Stanford Design School) and Laurel Roth, the 2000 Sq. Ft. Tasting Room boasts a blue-mosaic balcony bar with a spectacular view of the vineyards and the surrounding lakes and hills. The 34-ft. bar itself runs continuously from the inner room to the open balcony, and is softly lit by wine bottle lamps hanging from the ceiling.
We’re eager to share Sula’s beautiful Nashik Vine Estate with all those interested in learning about wine making and wine tasting, or those just wanting a relaxing place to enjoy some of the finest wines around.
Tour & Tastings
One of Sula’s friendly and knowledgeable tour guides will take you on a tour of the vineyards and the winery, uncovering the mysteries of the wine making process from grape to bottle.
End your tour on their Tasting Room, where they’ll lead you through the proper steps to see, swirl, sniff, and sip wine. Tours and Tastings run hourly between 11.30AM – 5.30PM
